The New Upgrades in Ableton 10

This week on the MTC Blog we’ll be focusing on the all-new features you can find in Ableton’s latest upgrade version 10.

If you’re an Ableton user like myself then most likely you’ve been itching for some new features and improvements for this amazing music making machine.

The new update includes a few new devices, Some essential workflow improvements, browsing and mixing enhancements, as well as some new sound libraries added to the suite, and plenty of upgrades to the Push controller’s workflow.

The New and Updated Interface

New and Improved Audio Effects

Echo

Quality Delay sounds modelling classic analog characteristics and digital echo flutters.

Drum Buss

all-in-one drum sculpting multi-effect that adds warmth.

Pedal

Your classic guitar pedal with overdrive, distortion and fuzz modes. great for guitars, and perfect for anything that needs that overdriven sound.

EQ Eight

Eq Eight got a nice update to its dynamic range and is now capable of going down to 10 Hz.

Utility You’ll now be able to go down to -inf dB.

New “Mono” and “Bass Mono” modes.

Wavetable

Ableton’s new groundbreaking synth.

is a wavetable synthesizer that lets you sculpt sounds using analog modelled waveforms and a range of other instruments and tones. wave shaping sounds with analog filters and a plethora of modulation tools.

Capture

‘Capture' will record all of your ideas without having to hit the record button — Don’t ever lose your amazing improvisation because you forgot to press record. Hit the “Capture” button afterwards and Ableton will match your tempo and timing, Allowing you to start out with a solid starting idea and a perfect loop.

Browser Collections

You can now colour code your favourite sounds so you can organize your most used devices, plugins, and samples.

Multiple MIDI Clip Editing

Now it's easier to work with multiple MIDI clips in a single view, in both the Arrangement and Live’s Session view.

If the MIDI clip is in the middle.

Groups Within Groups

You can now Group within a group for better workflow and track routing.

I/O Renaming

You now have the functionality to rename the different inputs and outputs routed from your interface for better I/O organization.

Reverse Shortcut Key

Hit “R” to reverse an audio clip!

Loop Enable/Disable Looping in Ableton 10 is now improved Hit Command + M on Mac, or CTRL + M on PC to enable/disable the arrangements Loop Selection. Arrangement View Clip Nudging

You’ll now be able to move clips inside of Ableton with the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard. Holding ‘Command' on Mac, or ‘Alt' on Windows, you’ll be able to enable and toggle grid snapping.

Easy MIDI Clip Creation in Arrangement View Select a region and double-click to create a MIDI clip.

Visible Clip Fades Clip fades are now permanently visible.

Partially Deactivating Clips

You can now select any portion of a clip in the arrangement view and click 0 to deactivate that slice instead of the whole clip.

Max For Live Updates “Max For Live” is now fully integrated with Ableton. It no longer requires additional installation, it will load faster, they’ve also enhanced the CPU performance when using the devices.

Push 2 Enabled the Push 2 display process to run on the integrated GPU on dual-GPU hardware on macOS.

Push 2 Device Visualization Filter curves are now available for Simpler on Push 2. Added a filter visualization for Auto Filter on Push 2. Added a visualization to Operator's Filter bank on Push 2. Introduced additional icons to the Global bank for Wavetable on Push 2. Updated Wavetable's Unison Mode icons on Push 2. Updated the Push 2 colour palette. Added icons for Wavetable's Filter Routing and Unison parameters, and updated Oscillator and Filter icons on Push 2. On Push 2's display, "On" and "Off" values now appear in title case instead of uppercase. It is now possible to control Wavetable's Poly Voices parameter from Push. If Wavetable's Poly/Mono is set to Poly, Poly Voices will be shown instead of the Glide control. Improved the look of Operator's 'Algorithm' icons on Push 2. Improved the way filter curves appear on Push, by drawing an opaque background.

Push 2 Note Layouts On Push 2, the state of a track can now be saved when saving a default track. Improved the chord selection for Push 1 and 2's new Melodic Sequencer + 32 Notes layout: it is no longer required to press the pads at the very same time, and the selected notes will always correspond to the currently held (or most recently released) notes. You can activate Live's Capture feature by pressing the Record and New button at the same time Ableton has really improved the stability and workflow of its amazing music creation sequencer.
